We arrived in Bishops’ Square eighteen years ago having already been in Rochester the previous eighteen. The house and the Square provided space and light, unlike our previous homes. Being towards the top of a hill the sun and sky are visible all around, not hidden by high walls as is the case in the city’s centre where we lived for eight years. Generally it’s quiet here. Leading nowhere there’s no through traffic ‘just passing by’. You come to the Square for a reason (even if it’s just to park your car).
